Storming Salzburg

We arrived in Salzburg yesterday evening to threatening skies. But we managed to wander the town and only get minimally showered. But, last night this area had the HUGEST thunderstorm! It was so cool! There was a constant rolling thunder for about 30 minutes which I had never experienced. Not just a clap of thunder followed by another, a constant echoing of thunder in what had to be an enormous storm cell that passed over Salzburg. The lightning was like paparazzi flashbulbs at the Oscar’s red carpet. Too much in too small an area to see where it was actually flashing. My guess is a lot of it was cloud to cloud and not necessarily reaching for ground. It was awesome. I think I may have actually fallen back asleep to the sound of rolling thunder. Either that or it was the downpour of rain- both a good recipe for a sound sleep.

Salzburg is a great little city nestled in the Bavarian Alps. Jagged peaks lay in the distance, reminding me a lot of the Rockies in Southwest Colorado. Today we’ve been to the Hohensalzburg Fortress, Hellbrunn Trick Fountains, Salzburg Zoo, the home of the Motzarts and other meanderings through small cobblestone streets, soaking up history, cultures, sights and heat. Now we’re trying to cool down before dinner. One display thermometer we passed declared 38 degrees Celsius which would be about 104. Emrys doesn’t think it was accurate- I’m not so sure! It’s pretty toasty. We’ll explore Salzburg again tomorrow and then Thursday it’s off to Geneva. At least if its 104 there, we’ll be close to a lake!

Hi U-2, Even if it is soooo very hot, it sure sounds as if you are enjoying some great sites. What an adventure you are on and what a joy it is to journey with you through this blog. Try to stay cool and remember here in the San Fernando Valley the temperature is going to be 103-105 this weekend so we are feeling the same weather even though we are so far away. Enjoy this journey. God Bless and hugs, Diane and Tom Hunter
